Recovered from a crash site and placed in storage from 1960 - 1970. AE977 was purchased by Hawker Restorations 1994 and restoration was started. She was registered as G-TWTD and her first flight took place on the 7th June 2000. AE977 was painted in the colors of Douglas Bader's Hurricane from 242 Squadron 1940, wearing the codes LE-D.
Her new ownership saw the Hurricane move to Chino with new owner Tom Friedkin of Chino Warbirds, between 2001 - 2004. The Hurricane was kept at the Planes of Fame museum.
The Hurricane was shipped to The Spitfire Company (Biggin Hill) Ltd in 2012, and registered as G-CHTK in 2013. AE977 has been part of the Spitfire Company's collection of warbirds ever since. Now proudly wearing the Markings of GZ-L of 32 Squadron Biggin Hill
Our Hurricane was built by Canadian Car and Foundry in spring 1940 as a Hurricane I, where she was delivered to the RAF in September 1940, just after the Battle of Britain had ended, and unfortuately she never saw any combat.
By July 1942, AE977 had been converted to a sea Hurricane Mk.X. On 5th December 1942 the aircraft was involved in a mid air collision while being piloted by Squadron Leader Douglas Trevor King RNVR. As a result the Hurricane was classified as 'beyond economical repair', and so she was placed in storage.
